While a woman is pregnant her body undergoes numerous physical changes. Prenatal massage is beneficial throughout the entire nine months of the pregnancy; however, if you are having a high risk pregnancy it is best to discuss your condition with your midwife or physician before seeking a massage. Proper positioning of the mother changes as her pregnancy progresses.
Benefits of massage during pregnancy are numerous. Researchers at the Touch Research Institute (University of Miami School of Medicine) have found evidence to support the use of massage therapy in pregnant women. Massaged women reported a decrease in depressed mood, anxiety, and pain. These women also showed a more positive attitude following the first massage during labor. Massage was also associated with other benefits, including shorter labor times, shorter hospital stays and less postpartum depression.
During my third trimester, I benefited greatly from having prenatal massage with Jessica. Her expertise and ability to create a relaxing and peaceful environment helped alleviate my late pregnancy discomfort. I was so pleased with our session, I came in for a wonderful postnatal massage and consider her my sole massage therapist for future visits. Jessica's warm personality and dedication to women's health sets her apart and I highly recommend her!
